Iseltwald: The Pearl of Lake Brienz That Captivated the World

On the southern shore of turquoise Lake Brienz lies the small village of Iseltwald —a traditional fishing village of fewer than 400 residents. In recent years it became one of Switzerland’s most searched destinations after its famous wooden pier appeared in the final scene of a globally successful South Korean drama. Yet Iseltwald was enchanting long before that fame: traditional wooden houses, flower-covered balconies and uninterrupted views across the lake to the surrounding mountains have always earned it the name “the pearl of Lake Brienz.”
Why Did Iseltwald Become a Global Destination?
The T-shaped wooden pier extending into the lake was the setting for a famous romantic scene in “Crash Landing on You” ((2019). Thousands of visitors from South Korea, Japan and around the world began travelling here to stand in that exact spot. Demand became so high that the village introduced new rules for tour coaches, so groups should arrange coach reservations in advance.
